Studio Visit | Tina Marie CPH Handmade - Poetic Colours and Vivid Surfaces

·

During the recent sourcing trip to Copenhagen I visited Tina Marie Bentsen in her new studio in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. Tina Marie has created an inspirational new space that works both as her studio and her shop. I couldn't help but bring out the camera to give you a small tour around her new space.

Tina Marie's ceramics has been part of the NABO collection from the very beginning and with good reason; her focus on simple shapes and geometric forms are very pleasing for the eye and her poetic colours and vivid surfaces keep fascinating.

The decorative element lies in the material and technique she uses: shaded, poetic colour combinations, vivid surfaced and glazed are central to Tina Marie's work. Every piece is made by hand from start to finish and the work of the hand gives each piece small variations and makes every piece unique.

"All pieces are made in stoneware, some thrown on the potters wheel, some cast in moulds and all are glazed by hand in glazes developed by me", Tina Marie explains.

The importance of creating a sustainable production is a part of Tina Marie philosophy, as "this gives a more sustainable production, a close relationship to the helping hands and as a very important point, this maintains important old craftsmanship and knowhow in Denmark, so that the fine ceramics tradition can continue and grow", Tina Marie explains.

Denmark has a rich tradition of producing fine ceramics and original pottery; factories like Royal Copenhagen are well-known worldwide due to their history and ceramic tradition. Unfortunately, Royal Copenhagen have moved their production to Thailand.

To Tina Marie, as well and other young Danish potters, it's very important to create a sustainable production. She's is one of the promotors and owners of a small factory on Bornholm, Den Danske Keramikfabrik.

If you would like to see more of Tina Marie's work you can find vases in different shapes and colours in the NABO collection. Every piece NABO stocks is unique and there is therefore only one of each.
